Updates from around the nursery

One minute there’s a late frost; then there’s a months’ worth of rain in a week; then there’s no rain for a month; and then June happens and it’s glorious sunshine!  Never a dull moment with British Weather, and the same can be said of British tree growing.

Stock availability

As always, we are constantly reviewing our stock availability so that we can offer an informed response and a true picture when our customers are enquiring. This season, we are running very low on evergreens, reflective of its scarcity across all UK growers, as demand has outstripped planted stock numbers in a clamour to plant for all year round foliage.  There are always alternatives and it is worth checking with the Green Mile team to discuss what your planting plans are, what the planting purpose is (screening, hedging, statements etc.) so that we might be able to help by looking at it from a different variety perspective.

Watering

We cannot stress the importance of watering enough, particularly over long periods of sustained warm weather.  Keep up your watering regimes and make sure you take a look at our Watering Checklist to ensure you give your new and establishing trees the very best chance to endure the sunnier months.

Next steps on the nursery

There really never is any downtime on the nursery.  As well as managing the irrigation programmes, we are:

• Pruning
• Caning
• Tying
• Spraying
• Mowing
• Weeding

Nursery work is non-stop.  Busy taking enquiries in the office, monitoring stock levels, sourcing bought-in specimens where necessary and keeping the dispatch of plants flowing freely and effectively to their new forever homes in a landscape near you, the Green Mile Trees team certainly have their hands full.

At this time of year, we are also in the throes of updating our container grown trees full stock list as well as adding new content to the website throughout the summer so please bear with us if there is an image that does not load instantly – it will be us in the background, making it better!
