Plant Healthy Nursery: Confirmed
Green Mile Trees is certified as Plant Healthy
The Plant Healthy Certification Scheme has been established to counter the threat from plant pests. Green Mile Trees have been committed to biosecurity on the nursery and with suppliers for many years but now it has been officially recognised. The nursery has been certified as Plant Healthy under the scheme, audited and assessed independently by Grown in Britain.
The Plant Healthy Certification Scheme
Established from the objectives within Defra’s Plant Biosecurity Strategy for Great Britain (2014 and updated in 2023) and developed by horticultural specialists from the industry and government, the Scheme aims to:
- Reduce the risk of introducing / spreading destructive plant pests via plant supply chains (trade).
- Protect the horticulture industry, other cultivated plants and natural habitats.
- To easily identify businesses or organisations that grow, trade and manage plants to high standards of plant health and biosecurity
What does it mean to you?
To demonstrate and achieve this standard, Green Mile Trees have completed an assessment and been independently audited, scrutinised for our biosecurity measures (including how we assess plant health, quality control, pest and disease management and handling) and ensuring we are taking all precautions.
This gives you assurances that the trade and movement of all plant material into and out of Green Mile Trees gates has been verified as “Plant Healthy”.
What does it mean to us?
The on-site audit considers our records, monitoring, review and management of:
- Plant Passports and Traceability
- Phytosanitary Certificates (=plant health)
- Pest Risk Analysis and Outbreaks
- Statutory Plant Health and Conditions
- Packaging
- Plant Biosecurity Policies
- Plant Health Hygiene
- Growing Media and Soil
- Weed Management, Water Usage
- Cleaning and Sterilisation; Waste and Disposal
- Visitors
- Training and Legislation
Successfully meeting or exceeding all the safety and health checks across the business, we have been awarded Certification for 2024. To be reviewed annually, this is testament to the hard work and diligence we put in across production, goods inward and outwards and operations.
